Performance motors, mud motors, downhole motors. The Motor Company - Delivering Downhole Power

SERVICES2

The Motor Company provides the oil and gas industry with a complete array of drilling motor services, including tool assembly/disassembly, cleaning, inspection, repair and maintenance. The Motor Company is also a complete source for motor spare parts and components. This includes rotors, stators, couplings, radial bearings, bearing assemblies and stabilizers.

MOTOR SELECTION

While the proposed drilling operation may be very complex and require detailed planning, a number of factors must also be considered when selecting the motor. On request, The Motor Company will work with the client to determine the most suitable motor configuration for a particular job.

The particular application for which the motor will be used is the first consideration (e.g. vertical drilling, directional drilling, steerable-system drilling, HDD, etc.). Other factors include bit type, speed, torque, WOB, bit pressure drop, flow rate, mud type, BH circulating temperature, hole size, tubular specs, stabilizer placement, well profile and site logistics.

The client will be asked to provide such basic job information, based on which The Motor Company will recommend a motor and BHA configuration to optimize ROP and overall drilling performance.3

FIELD SUPPORT

The Motor Company will consult with the client to determine the most cost effective manner of providing for optimum motor reliability. In some cases, that may mean having full motor redundancy on site. In other cases, back-up arrangements may consist of hot-shotting replacement motors/parts. In addition, The Motor Company may utilize its fleet of motors in a given service area to provide support in a cost-effective manner.

The Motor Company provides its clients with 24/7 telephone support to ensure critical components are available to minimize drilling downtime.

GEODRIVE®

GEODRIVE® MOTORS

The Motor Company is home to the GEODRIVE® downhole drilling motor. GEODRIVE® motors have a proven history of reliable performance and have been used extensively, both in North America and overseas. TMC offers a complete line of GEODRIVE® motors ranging from 1-11/16" to 11-1/4" outer diameter.

GEODRIVE®
motors are manufactured in a dedicated facility that is both ISO and API certified. TMC is a complete motor solutions provider with the ability to custom design motor configurations based on a customer's needs and particular circumstances, rather than having to employ off-the-shelf products.

GEODRIVE® MOTOR HIGHLIGHTS:

Safety Catch Sub Assembly: TMC supplies a safety catch system with each motor to provide additional security against leaving motor components in the hole in the unlikely event of a connection failure.

Rotors: Solid and bored rotors are precision machined and polished to achieve a smooth and accurate finish. Each rotor is plated for corrosion protection and wear resistance.

Stators: Stators incorporate a quality high performance butadiene acrylonitrile elastomer. The standard elastomer is a versatile and fi eld proven formulation with excellent mechanical properties and good resistance to aromatics. It has an operating temperature range of up to 250°F (120°C) and a maximum temperature range to 300°F (150°C). Elastomers are routinely inspected and tested to ASTM standards to ensure a quality stator product.

Coupling Assembly: Each motor includes a high strength coupling for maximum performance. The coupling is precision machined for smooth articulation and minimal wear while providing optimum torque to the bit.

Adjustable Bent Housing (ABH): Each motor can be configured with an adjustable bent housing, with the ability to incorporate a 0 to 3 degree bend angle adjustment. The ABH is engineered for simple adjustment and ease of use at the rig site.

Bearing Assembly: The GeoDrive® non-sealed open bearing assembly is a robust and field proven design. TMC uses a special tungsten carbide tile matrix for the radial bearings for maximum protection against radial wear. Axial thrust is managed by a series of full contact mud lubricated rock bit steel thrust bearings. Non-sealed bearings offer the advantage of providing higher differential pressures across the drill bit without the concern of losing seal integrity, a risk presented by sealed bearing units.

CALGARY SERVICE FACILITY

The Motor Company has full motor assembly, repair and maintenance capabilities at its facility in Northeast Calgary, with convenient access to Deerfoot Trail. The Calgary facility is equipped with 5 and 10 ton cranes as well as an AutoTorque Service Unit (complete with high-speed Spinner). The TMC AutoTorque Service Unit is designed specifically for servicing downhole motors.

MOTOR MAINTENANCE

To prevent wellsite downtime, The Motor Company follows a strategy of proactive maintenance rather than reactive maintenance and repair. All TMC motors are tested and inventoried prior to being dispatched. Run hours are recorded and tools receive maintenance and repair based on cumulative hours. Motors are disassembled after each job, regardless of usage, and rebuilt after careful inspection to replace any worn or damaged parts.1

All motors exposed to an oil based/corrosive environment or extreme high temperatures are relined regardless of condition.

The Motor Company can provide a "Safety Catch Sub" that provides the ability to retrieve motor components such as the rotor and lower assembly in the unlikely event of a motor connection failure. This generally occurs when the tool joints are subject to excessive loads from extreme drilling conditions.

All connections are inspected by third party vendors. To ensure that TMC motors meet or exceed expectations, the history and hours of each component are tracked.
